Reflexology in Solihull

Reflexology is a wonderful and powerful treatment that can be used as an aid to healing of all manner of conditions of a physical and emotional nature. Whether you are in need of stress release or have a specific health condition, reflexology can be a highly beneficial treatment. Forms of reflexology have been used throughout history and recognition of its fantastic health-giving qualities is now widely accepted, so much so that many health insurance schemes include Reflexology as a recommended treatment that policy holders can claim on. Why Choose Solihull Holistic Health/Rob Buckle (MAR) for Reflexology?

Reflexology changed my own life in 2006, when I sought a remedy for persistent migraines. After being told by my doctor that there was ‘nothing you can do’, I sought to prove him wrong and began exploring natural health. Reflexology was the first holistic therapy I tried and I found an initial course of treatments had a very positive and lasting effect on my migraines. I was so impressed with reflexology I decided to train as a Reflexologist! Now, with over 12 years of experience as a Reflexologist, my passion for Reflexology has only strengthened, as I have seen the powerful, positive effects it has had on so many people I have worked with. As a new client you will get the full benefit of all of this experience and will be treated with the utmost respect and confidentiality, regardless of what issues you wish to address.

I am an ITEC qualified Reflexologist, which means the course was a fully accredited, professional practitioner qualification and recognised by The Association of Reflexology, the leading professional body for Reflexology, of which I am a full member. My training entailed exams in Anatomy & Physiology, Pathology and Business Practice as well as the practice and theory of Reflexology. It is disturbing to me that some, lesser, training providers are now offering Reflexology Practitioner qualifications in just 3 days! This simply does not equip anyone to work professionally with a multitude of health issues, in my opinion. So be careful who you choose as your Reflexologist!

Rob Buckle (MAR) is an ITEC qualified Reflexologist and a full member of the Association of Reflexologists, meaning he reaches the highest standards of professional practice, which includes continual professional development to remain up to date with current thinking and practices. Rob has also undertaken a great deal of specialist Reflexology training, including Fertility Reflexology and
Aroma-Reflexology

Here is a recent video clip of Rob Buckle, talking about the benefits of Reflexology and how it works, on Solihull Radio:

The reflexology treatments have really helped to improve my health both physically and mentally. I would definitely recommend reflexology as a complementary treatment. It is worth trying as I really do feel it has greatly assisted me and helped me to get back on my feet." (John, Solihull)

"The treatments have changed my life! Rob identified my problems straight away and was not only able to treat them, but advised me on many lifestyle changes that would also aid me. With a relatively short course of treatments I have a new lease of life! I highly recommend Rob to anybody!!" (Pete, Solihull)

"Excellent reflexology by Rob. He is well trained in holistic therapies and very easy to talk to." (Janet, Knowle)

Aroma-Reflexology

A special, extended reflexology treatment for added relaxation and enhanced healing benefits. Aroma-Reflexology combines the power of Aromatherapy essential oils and Reflexology together. A treatment consists of a full reflexology treatment, but with an extended aromatherapy massage to the feet and lower legs, hands and arms at the start and end of a treatment. To enhance the benefit of the treatment you will have a blend of oils chosen just for you. It an extremely relaxing and nurturing experience.

Aroma-Reflexology uses a carefully selected range of oils that are safe to use, blended in a smooth, natural wax or cream. You will have your blend applied throughout  your treatment. All the oils possess wonderful therapeutic properties and are 100% pure, therapeutic grade oils and can be blended to enhance the main treatment in whatever way is needed. For example, there are blends to help you energise, relax, detox, ease aches and pains, enhance immunity, improve sleep quality, improve mental focus and improve fertility. There is a range of over 20 of the most popular essential oils, including Lavender, Rose, Frankincense, Peppermint, Lemon, Cedarwood and Jasmine, so you can select your own custom-blend if you wish. Rob Buckle is fully trained in the use of essential oils for ‘Aroma-Reflexology’.

This treatment is longer than a regular reflexology session as it also incorporates advanced massage techniques. Aroma-Reflexology is a caring, hands-on therapy which seeks to induce relaxation, to increase energy, to reduce the effects of stress and to restore balance to mind, body and spirit

Reflexology. Lafuma (aqua)

What Can You Expect at a Reflexology Treatment?

Reflexology is an unintrusive, relaxing therapy. Only the feet and lower ankles are worked on by the therapist.

Prior to a first treatment I will conduct a health and lifestyle consultation. This usually takes about 15 minutes and is to help establish what your main reason for you seeking treatment is and if there are any reasons why the treatment might not be appropriate for you. All information recorded will be treated in accordance with the Data Protection Act and will remain confidential.

Once the consultation is complete, you will get ready for the main treatment.

What should I wear?

It is best to wear loose, comfortable clothes, so that you can relax more easily. For ladies having reflexology, it is advised not to wear short skirts, as the angle of the Lafuma makes it unsuitable to remain fully covered.

Do you use a massage couch or a Lafuma (reclining chair)?

For reflexology I use a Lafuma, as it lends itself very well to reflexology. I use this, not only because they are so comfortable, but also because it can easily be transported for home visits.

How many treatments will I need?

This depends on the reason for seeking treatment. If it just for stress relief, then one or two treatments may be sufficient, but for most conditions a course of at least 4-6 treatments is recommended.

How long does a Reflexology treatment take?

A full treatment usually lasts around 50 minutes. 60 minute sessions are booked to allow time for updates at the start of follow-on sessions and for having a glass of water and re-booking (if necessary) at the end.

Please note - a first treatment will usually take an extra 15-20 mins, as it will include a consultation.

* All treatments include a free initial consultation at the first session and a fresh glass of mineral water after each treatment

What can Reflexology help with?

It has been estimated that over seventy five per cent of all illness is stress related. Stress, is the result of tension, tension is a result of our thinking, our interpretation of the events that surround our lives. Reflexology can relax your body systems and reduce your tension by generating deep, tranquil, relaxation.

Reflexology cleanses the body of toxins and impurities.

The body has built-in mechanisms for cleansing itself, but if these stop functioning improperly, toxins and waste matter build up. By deepening relaxation, reflexology causes all systems of the body to function more efficiently, including those that eliminate waste products.

Reflexology improves circulation.

We all know how important it is for the blood to flow freely throughout the body, carrying oxygen and nutrients to all the cells that make up the tissues of the body and removing waste products of metabolism, and other toxins. Stress and tension tighten up the cardiovascular system and restrict blood flow. Circulation becomes sluggish. By reducing stress and tension, reflexology allows the miles of cardiovascular vessels to conduct the flow of blood naturally and easily.

Reflexology balances the whole system.

The technical term is homeostasis and it means being in a dynamic state of being. The thousands of parts and areas of the body, each functioning according to its own laws and purposes, together make up only one body. For the body to be healthy, everything must work together.

Reflexology revitalises energy

We each experience our own energy levels in a personal way, our bodies have a natural ebb and flow, it really does depend on some many factors, but one thing is certain: energy flows. It circulates throughout the body on a physical, emotional and mental level. Energy needs to be revitalized periodically. By relaxing and opening up energy pathways, reflexology revitalizes the body and supplies it with energy on all levels.

Reflexology stimulates creativity and productivity

By reducing tensions and calming the mind we are free to think our best thoughts, come up with our best ideas, and work longer and with greater clarity at difficult tasks.

Who is reflexology suitable for?

From young children to pensioners reflexology can add a whole new dimension to a person's life. People with disabilities and learning difficulties have also been known to benefit greatly from its therapeutic effects.

How Does Reflexology Work?

The theory underlying reflexology is that pressure on reflex points stimulates the energy flow along pathways (meridians) clearing congestion and balancing the whole body. Working on all reflex points in the feet will return the body to homeostasis (a stable equilibrium throughout the body). Once in this state the body's immune system will be able to overcome whatever is troubling it.

The practitioner will gently exert pressure on the reflex points in a systematic way. This stimulates and sends nerve impulses along the energy pathways to the various parts of the body to which they are connected. The impulses clear or reduce the congestion in the energy channels, which helps revitalise the energy flow and promotes homeostasis.

A Brief History of Reflexology

Reflexology is not a new method of treatment. It goes back at least 5000 years, when a similar form of therapy was practiced in Egypt, India and China. The story of modern reflexology began at the beginning of the 20th century when Dr William Fitzgerald developed the modern zone theory of the human body, arguing that parts of the body correspond to other parts. She offered as proof the fact that applying pressure to one area anesthetized a corresponding area.

In the 1930's Eunice Ingham, a physiotherapist for Dr. Joseph Riley, used zone therapy in her work with patients. Eventually, she mapped the entire body onto the feet and discovered that alternating pressure on various points had therapeutic effects far beyond the limited use to which zone therapy had been previously employed, namely, reduction of pain, and so reflexology was born.
